Daytime walkabouts are groundwork
for night time walkabouts and outdoor investigations. We go to these
places first in daylight to assess safety and to look at potential
risks before we even consider doing any kind of investigation. We
also take into account walking, parking etc.
Fortunately, for this expedition, the weather was on our side, despite
a strong breeze it was dry, sunny and very warm.

After arriving at Martins Mill train station,
at around 10:00, we walked the 2.5 miles down to St Margaret’s
Bay (pictured right).

| Following a picnic lunch, Sarah,
Bob and Jess when to try and find the cave in the cliffs but after
scrambling over lots of rocks we decided that this would be unsafe
to do so at night time (pictured right). |

After abandoning our search for the
cave, we headed back to the Bay to rejoin Sue and Dawn.
Pictured right - looking back towards
the Bay from the rocks.
Having made a quick stop at the museum
for a look around and an ice-cream, we proceeded up to the cliff-top
for our stroll on to Dover.

En-route to Dover, we stopped at South
Foreland Lighthouse (pictured right), the views were amazing.
We found several WWII gun-emplacements
on the way to Dover but access was either impossible or too
dangerous.
