Thanet GhostWatch Property Investigation
Report
The Granville Theatre, Ramsgate
Base Line and Scientific
Written by Bryn.
From previous visits, there
seemed to be good scope to cover the area with a lot of instrumentation.
Base Line
Instruments used:
IR Non-contact Temperature Sensor
Geiger Counter
AC EMF Meter.
The Geiger Counter was left
on continually - en-route from the Bar area through the Cinema, then
the Theatre and Galleries and finally the backstage area.
Temperature results - average
of 12.5°C, variance to 13.5°C at stage area of the Theatre.
No unusual readings where observed.
Geiger Counter results - areas
clean, just normal background counts.
Device used following US researchers who claim slight rises in ionising
radiation before/during paranormal events, although this has not been
proven.
AC EMF results - lots of areas
with potential spikes, these unsurprisingly centred around areas of
large electrical usage, as this meter is designed to measure man-made
fields.
Under use, spotlights etc, being in action it would suggest that these
levels would increase adding to EMF noise in the building.
Mercury vapour lights in the Cinema produced an odd slow "pulsing"
signal.
Base Line conclusion - areas
obviously have large electric usage, there seems to be various vintages
of wiring so the area is electrically noisy, even in the out of hours
conditions we visited in.
Whilst there is no direct link to paranormal activity and electrical
noise (eletrosmog) it may be of significance to future studies.
Temperature results - as expected
quite uniform, although there seemed little or no HVAC activity in
the building, nothing unusual was noted.
Main equipment set up in the Cinema
Devices used:
Digital Audio Recorder (iRiver 24hz sample rate, Sony Stereo Microphone)
- over 6 hours of audio recorded, this was to pick up possible EVPs
and also monitor audio outputs from the VLF, Natural Trifield, Geiger
Counter and Infrasound (indirectly) sensor.
Natural Trifield Meter - set
on SUM function, audio baseline alert adjusted to just above background
threshold.
Geiger Counter (same unit as
used on Base Line) - set to audio signal, so 'clicks' could be picked
up by the digital audio recorder.
VLF Radio - Brotronics Earth
Monitor, set to Paranormal range, audio output adjusted to allow recording.
Infrasound Monitor - Brotronics,
output split into audio recorder, visual bar graph centred in as 'quiet'
a setting as possible, tuned to 6.5 Hz.
Review of results (audio
MP3 file, 6hrs 23 mins)
Natural Trifield Meter - seemed
quiet, only responses recorded associated with groups or individuals
of our team in the immediate area - one occasion on power up of the
house lights (by myself).
No recorded evidence of any 'unusual' readings.
Geiger Counter - random background
results recorded throughout the night (as expected).
Slight flutter of counts around midnight, not unusual.
Normal background levels, no dangerous or harmful levels recorded.
VLF Radio - once again disturbances
linked to our teams presence, possible that several mobile phones
where also picked up.
Very slight possible background "Dawn Chorus" natural VLF
signal in the early hours (around 3 - 4 am) but this was faint and
erratic. Could be mistaken for EVP, but it is consistent with other
monitoring I have done in the past.
Infrasound - many low rumbles
picked out, this very much linked to traffic noise, in some cases
the signal is overlaid exactly by RF signals on the VLF caused by
engine electronics, especially larger and obvious diesel engine 'whirring'
recordings.
Very noisy recording, especially the fire doors - when opened during
breaks etc.
Experimental mistake to have included it in the digital audio, needs
separate recorder, there is a possibility that these Infrasound signals
masked or overpowered other audio sources.
