Introduction

Rye, East Sussex
Day Trip

River
Photo: Bob

Sunday 12th July, 2009.

Group: Sue, Sarah, Bob, Dawn, Keef, Jake, Keith, Jen, Julie, CB, Liam, Claire, Lizzie, Matt, Jessica and Jack.

Arrived at Rye Station's coach park in Jake's vintage double decker bus (pictured right).
Many thanks to Jake for offering the use of his bus and his driving services.

This was mainly a day out for the group so the emphasis was not on the paranormal, however several things were picked-up on and have been included in this mini report.

Pictured right and below, three light anomalies captured in the tunnel which runs around the base of the centre tower of Camber Castle.

Feelings and thoughts in Camber Castle
Jake:
I picked-up on some kind of Page / Knave in the little dark passage (that runs around the outside of the tower). I only saw his top half from the waist upwards, apparently his legs appear separately at different times. He was quite young with what looked like a beret with a big feather on it.
A woman in white or some kind of light flowing dress walking along the battlements or where the battlements would've been. She has been seen by other people too but not for many years now.
Just off the east bastion was a spot in a corner where someone had died of their injuries - bled to death. This wasn't a battle-related injury, more akin to an accident, may be a fall nearby and landing on something.

Julie:
I was aware of a presence in the dark tunnel in Camber Castle. Myself and Dawn thought we heard footsteps made by heavy boots. I felt as if there was a male walking very close to me but only in a small section of the tunnel.

Sarah:
First feeling was in the central tower, felt strange, not a bad feeling just strange, as if someone or something was watching you.
Over the little wooden bridge, on the east side, me and Jess had a strange feeling in there, Jess didn't like it, it didn't feel nice so we came out.

Bob:
I had a strange sensation in the centre tower. Don't know if this was "paranormal" or was due to the fact that I was bent over to get through the tunnel and then straightening up in a circular space?

Feeling and thoughts in the Catholic Church
Jake:
Whilst sitting there quietly, I noticed movement across the altar. A figure in black and white was moving from left to right and back again - between two small rooms either side of the altar. He appeared to be someone in a cassock?

Sarah:
I saw what looked like a shadow down by the alter table.

Feeling and thoughts at various points in the town
Jake:
In some of the back streets we were confronted by Rye's past, down by the Ypres Tower in the passage, between there and the wall (the one that ran down to the pub) was one, may be two, prostitutes lurking in long shabby dresses with dirty hair piled up on their heads.
Again, around the top of Mermaid / West Street was an old "seadog" in a long coat, he had either a limp or a wooden leg but he had a stick and not a crutch.
There were a few other feelings too but not much really to write about as they were so vague.

Feeling and thoughts in Needle's Passage (pictured right)
Jake:
At the far end, where it passes under the buildings, was a real feeling of unease and a feeling of being watched. I was "told" there was a tavern there that the past undesirables of Rye would have used and they are the ones that make it feel like that.

Bob:
The end section of Needle's Passage literally oozed history, even the smell smelt "old".
